Program overview

The Diploma of Photoimaging/Bachelor of Arts gives you the opportunity to combine skills in photography with one or more of the specialisations available through the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at USC.

Sunshine Coast TAFE (SCT) delivers the photography portion of the program, where you will use the latest imagery software to develop a practical skills base.

The Bachelor of Arts component of the program is delivered by USC, and provides the opportunity to develop additional knowledge and skills in your chosen specialisation.

Your TAFE studies in photography can be combined with any one of 23 Bachelor of Arts major study areas, including design, journalism, public relations, communication studies, sociology, and language studies.

Teaching mode

There are different teaching modes between the SCT diploma modules and the University’s Bachelor of Arts courses. Diploma modules are face-to-face teaching with performance-based assessment. The University’s Bachelor of Arts courses include three or four hours of contact per course per week, generally in the mode of a one-hour lecture and two-hour tutorial. Students complete a further six to seven hours of self-directed learning per course per week. The self-directed learning consists of readings, research, assignments and other assessment items.

Please note that is full-time program commences only in Semester 1 each year. New students are not required to complete any USC courses until they complete their SCT diploma.

This program is an articulation between the Sunshine Coast TAFE and the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Sunshine Coast TAFE (SCT)

Students study the Diploma of Photoimaging at SCT and USC will award credit for the Diploma equivalent to 8 courses towards the Bachelor of Arts at USC.

University of the Sunshine Coast (USC)

Students complete 16 courses at USC, as follows.

Program requirements and notes

1. No more than 10 introductory level courses are to be completed, including core courses and courses credited for study at SCT.
2. Chosen introductory courses may count towards the major.
3. No course may be counted towards more than one major or minor.
4. An introductory level course has a number less than 200 in its course code. An advanced level course has a number greater than 200 and less than 400 in its course code.
