Goal 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions

Neutral platform to discuss issues. Provide a neutral platform and ‘safe’ space for different political stakeholders to come together to frankly discuss challenges.

UniSC frequently hosts and sponsors a variety of topical events that serve as neutral platforms for discussions amongst academics, government officials, and the community. These events are designed to foster dialogue, share knowledge, and develop collaborative solutions to pressing issues.

One such event is the Industry to Research Event, which brings together researchers and industry leaders to discuss innovative projects and potential collaborations. Sponsored by the Regional University Industry Collaboration (RUIC) Program and supported by the Queensland Government and CSIRO, this event features quick-fire pitches from dynamic companies and research leaders. It aims to spark connections and foster partnerships that drive innovation and economic growth.

Another significant annual event is the Healthy Ageing Symposium, which focuses on breaking down barriers and exploring intergenerational opportunities. This symposium gathers experts from various fields to discuss strategies for promoting healthy ageing and improving the quality of life for older adults. It provides a platform for sharing research findings, discussing policy implications, and developing community-based solutions.

UniSC also plays a pivotal role in facilitating discussions on critical national issues, such as the Indigenous Voice to Parliament. In the lead-up to the 2023 referendum, UniSC hosted events to educate and engage the community and political stakeholders on the importance of the Indigenous Voice to Parliament. These events provided a space for thoughtful and respectful conversations about the proposed constitutional amendment to recognize Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and establish a permanent advisory body. By hosting such events, UniSC underscores its commitment to truth-telling, freedom of expression, and fostering informed public debate on significant societal issues.

Summary

Through these and other events, UniSC demonstrates its commitment to creating inclusive and collaborative spaces where diverse stakeholders can come together to address important societal challenges.
