Undergraduate Certificate in Health

Ready to start your career in health? The Undergraduate Certificate in Health has been designed to provide an introductory-level study pathway into key areas of health. These include communication within the health sector and the professions, introductory level human anatomy and physiology, bioscience and introductory health practice and knowledge (including patient safety, ethical and legal roles when working in healthcare settings).

All applicants must either be able to declare that English is their primary language (ie they have attended and satisfactorily completed at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English. At least two years of this education must have been between grades 7 and 12. This education must have been completed in one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, or United States of America.); or they must attain an Academic IELTS score of at least 7.0 with a minimum of 7.0 in each subtest (obtained within two years prior to the commencement of the program). Ready to start your career in health? The Undergraduate Certificate in Health has been designed to provide an introductory-level study pathway into key areas of health. These include communication within the health sector and the professions, introductory level human anatomy and physiology, bioscience and introductory health practice and knowledge (including patient safety, ethical and legal roles when working in healthcare settings).

This program will provide direct credit into the Bachelor of Nursing Science.

Admission requirements

Completion of Year 12 or be 17 years of age; and meet minimum selection threshold ATAR 55.

To apply for the Undergraduate Certificate in Health, submit the completed online application form via Apply USC.

Note: the Undergraduate Certificate in Health is pending final approval for 2022.

Fees for short courses

As part of the Federal Government's Job-ready Graduates package, USC is offering a limited number of Commonwealth supported places in the Undergraduate Certificate in Health in 2021. To be eligible for a Commonwealth supported place you must be a domestic student, and meet the citizenship and residency requirements. For more information visit Commonwealth supported places. Eligible students are able to defer payment through HECS‑HELP.

Commonwealth supported places for short courses available under the Federal Government's Job Ready Graduates package are only available for 2021. Any remaining short course units that are commenced in 2022 would not be Commonwealth supported.

In order to graduate you must:

  • Successfully complete 48 units as outlined in the Program Structure

  • The Undergraduate Certificate in Health will provide direct credit into the Bachelor of Nursing Science 
  • Completing this program within the specified (full-time) duration is based on studying 48 unit points per semester (normally 4 courses) and following the recommended study sequence
  • The unit value of all courses is 12 units unless otherwise specified
  • It is each students responsibility to enrol correctly according to your course requisites, program rules and requirements and be aware of the academic calendar dates
  • Courses within this program are assessed using a variety of assessment methods which may include essays, seminar presentations, reports, in-class tests and examinations
