Get ready to move, measure, report and do sport. This program allows you to combine core sport and sport science knowledge with complementary studies such as tourism, leisure and event management; public relations; marketing; small business management; or outdoor leadership studies.

You’ll develop practical skills and learn fundamental knowledge in sport, exercise testing and measurement, coaching science, functional anatomy, motor control and biomechanics. In addition, the complementary studies allow you to follow your passions and strengths, and open the door to a range of creative and innovative sport and fitness careers.

This program is designed to help you be job-ready for a changing sport and fitness employment market.

Membership

There are a range of national sports accreditations available on successful completion within the program, such as the Australian Coaching Council Level 1 Coach Accreditation, Strength and Conditioning Coach and Senior First Aid. This program does not meet the requirements to be eligible to apply for Exercise Scientist membership of Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).

Elective courses (8)

Select 8 elective courses, of which 6 must be at advanced (200/300 coded). At least 2 of these advanced electives must be studied at a third year level (300 coded). Courses may be chosen from either faculty (Arts, Business and Law or Science, Health, Education and Engineering).

Program requirements

In order to graduate you must:

  • Complete no more than 10 introductory (100 level) courses, including COR109
  • Complete a minimum of 14 advanced (200 and 300 level) courses from any Faculty
  • Register your selected major and/or minor 
Program notes
  • Completing this program within the specified (full-time) duration is based on studying 48 unit points per semester (normally 4 courses)
  • Courses within this program are assessed using a variety of assessment methods including essays, seminar presentations, reports, in-class tests and examinations. Not all courses will necessarily include all methods
  • Only a full-time study option is available to international students on a Student Visa
  • As part of your USC program, you may apply to Study Overseas to undertake courses with an overseas higher education provider
