Student Handbook, Semester 2, 2010: Tertiary Preparation Pathway

The Tertiary Preparation Pathway (TPP) is a new program developed by the University to provide prospective students with an alternative entry pathway to tertiary study.

TPP offers a further entry option to those who are not able to gain admission to a degree program via QTAC without first gaining additional qualifications.

Upon successful completion of four TPP courses, students will be able to gain guaranteed entry into most USC degree programs through the standard USC direct entry application process. To attend another university you will need to apply through the standard QTAC application process.

TPP also allows prospective students to experience university life before committing to a degree program, and courses completed as part of the program are free-of-charge for Commonwealth-supported students (fees for international students can be found at USC International fees and costs). Please note that courses completed through TPP cannot be used as credit towards a degree.

How TPP works

  • Minimum entry age of 17 (international students must be 18 years old)
  • Applications are made direct to USC
  • Courses are offered in Semesters 1 and 2 and Summer Semester #
  • Students can study full-time (four courses over one semester) or part-time (two courses a semester for two semesters)
  • Students who have other QTAC entry qualifications can choose to study just one or two TPP courses to bring their skills up-to-date
  • Do not incur any fees for Commonwealth-supported students (Fees for international students can be found at USC International fees and costs)
  • Courses are Austudy approved
  • Program structure includes one required course in Academic Skills and three courses from a choice of Computer Literacy,Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Statistics, Introduction to Aboriginal Studies, Contemporary Australia or An Introduction to Working within the Community
  • The TPP is taught in English (both in classes and in written material), therefore international students and students from a non-English speaking background will need to have sufficient English skills to achieve an overall score of 5.5 and a minimum of 5.0 in all subtests of an IELTS test. Upon completion of TPP and prior to being admitted to any University Program, students are required to take an IELTS test and achieve an overall score of 6.0 and 5.5 in all subtests.
