Program overview

This program is a graduate qualification for registered teachers wishing to work in early childhood settings (Prep – Year 3), but not trained as Early Childhood teachers. It provides teachers with in-depth knowledge of Early Learning priorities, research, policy and practices including literacy and numeracy skills, and understanding how younger children develop and learn in rich early years environments.

Currently, there is a significant growth in the need for early phase teachers (Prep-3). This program offers an opportunity to gain expertise in the priority early learning areas. As well as extending teachers’ skills it may increase their employment flexibility.

Students complete four specific Early Years courses. Courses will be offered in face-to-face intensive mode and may be enhanced by a series of online learning modules. Assessment and teaching is focused upon the specific learning outcomes.

Admission requirements

Students will need to hold a successful undergraduate degree in Education or a Graduate Diploma in Education.

Note: this certificate alone does not lead to teacher registration. It is for teachers already qualified for registration in Queensland.

Students from a non-English speaking background will be required to attain an IELTS level of 7 in each category of the test. Equivalent scores from other forms of English language testing will also be considered.
