Student Handbook, Semester 2, 2005: Determination of the USC Academic Year Policy

Policy

The Academic Year for the University of the Sunshine Coast is determined as follows:

(i) For programs other than postgraduate coursework programs and higher degrees by research and professional doctorates:

(a) the Academic Year will consist of two semesters, each consisting of thirteen teaching weeks and a three week study and examinations period.

(b) There will be a one week Intra-Semester Break during Semester 1 which will coincide with the AVCC Common Vacation Week, and a two week Intra-Semester Break during Semester 2, one of which will coincide with the AVCC Common Vacation Week.

(c) There will be an Inter-Semester Break of four weeks between the end of Semester 1 and the beginning of Semester 2.

(d) As far as possible the Intra-Semester Breaks and the Inter Semester Break will coincide with Queensland State School holidays.

(e) Semester 1 will commence on the Monday one week before AVCC Week 1 in any year.

(ii) For postgraduate coursework programs:

(a) the Academic Year will consist of three Sessions, each consisting of thirteen teaching weeks and a one week examination period.

(b) There will be a one week Intra-Session break during each of Sessions 1 and 2, and a two week Intra-Session break during Session 3.

(c) There will be a break of two weeks between Sessions 1 and 2 and between Sessions 2 and 3.

(d) Session 1 will commence one week later than Week 1 of Semester 1, that is, on the Monday nearest to 1 March in any year.

(iii) For higher degree by research and professional doctorate candidates, enrolment may commence at any time during the calendar year and their program will be continuous, recognising only public holidays and the University end-of-year closure.
