Your study focuses on contemporary health promotion, health policies and programs, health promotion settings and issues, and research. This program gives you the skills to meet national and international health promotion competency standards.

During the program, you gain industry experience with a supervised professional placement. As a Health Promotion practitioner, choose career paths in community health centres, local government and non-government organisations such as the Cancel Council of Australia, Heart Foundation and Oxfam. Take advantage of the increase in healthcare resources to deliver health promotion practice and research.

Career opportunities

Roles in health promotion, health policy development, project development and management, disease prevention and early detection, community and international health in community-based health care, government, hospitals, private health care, and not-for-profit organisations.

Program requirements and notes

Program requirements

In order to graduate you must successfully complete the following course requirements as listed in the Program structure.

  • Complete no more than 10 introductory courses, including the core course.
  • Complete a minimum of 14 advanced (200 or 300 coded) courses.
Program notes
  • Hold a valid Suitability Card (Blue Card), which is issued by the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian (CCYPCG). You should allow 12 weeks for CCYPCG to issue the card. Note: students who do not possess a valid Blue Card will be unable to complete the work place learning component of their program and will be unable to meet graduation requirements.
  • Have a National Criminal History check (by Queensland Police Service or other state / territory authority).
  • Completing this program within the specified (full-time) duration is based on studying 48 unit points per semester (normally 4 courses).
  • Courses within this program are assessed using a variety of assessment methods including essays, seminar presentations, reports, in-class tests and examinations. Not all courses will necessarily include all methods.
  • As part of your USC program, you may apply to Study Overseas to undertake courses with an overseas higher education provider. It is advisable to contact your Program Advisor to discuss timing and course issues.
  • Only a full-time study option is available to international students on a Student Visa.
