Study this innovative program to gain an understanding of the principles underpinning sustainability. You learn about the latest tools and technologies to achieve sustainable outcomes at individual and societal levels, and explore systems approaches to chart sustainable futures.

You explore sustainability in contemporary society and examine aspects such as socio-ecological trends, historical underpinnings, leadership and governance, and future scenarios. You are encouraged to examine your own personal ideologies and to reflect on educational and societal influences.

From individual and societal perspectives, you study the most pressing sustainability issues and design strategies focused on achieving sustainability at local, regional and global scales. Encouraged to think as a global citizen, you apply the latest theory to real world examples.

As a sustainability professional, you will have innovative and adaptable problem-solving skills for a rapidly changing world. Skills enabling you to tackle pressing issues such as climate change and take advantage of opportunities such as the emerging green economy. As a graduate, you can expect to find employment in all tiers of government and private industry, both within Australia and internationally.

With both on campus and online modes of study, as well as the option of mid-year entry, studying sustainability has never been more accessible.

Admission requirements

A student entering the Graduate Certificate program will normally be required to hold an undergraduate degree, or equivalent from a recognised higher education institution. Entry by non-graduates who have extensive relevant industry experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Business.
