Program overview
The Graduate Certificate in Public Relations provides students with the theoretical understanding and practical skills required to succeed in the competitive field of public relations. Students will learn the theoretical framework for reputation management - assisting organisations or individuals to develop and maintain beneficial relationships with clients, media, government and other stakeholders, whether as part of an ongoing program, a specific campaign, or a crisis response.
This program offers students an opportunity to acquire skills and conceptual understandings in contemporary public relations. Interpersonal skills involving negotiation and the capacity to gain cooperation are an essential foundation for advanced technical and strategic skills in public relations. These include written and oral communication, the design and management of large-scale events, and an understanding of the media industries.
This program is designed for those who have already completed an undergraduate degree or its equivalent in an area different from public relations. It is intended to provide studies in public relations equivalent to those available within the higher levels of a Bachelor degree.
Admission requirements
A student entering the Graduate Certificate in Public Relations program will be required to hold a Bachelor degree from a recognised higher education institution in a discipline other than Public Relations. Entry by non-graduates who have extensive relevant industry experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
