Program overview

The Graduate Certificate in Nursing (General Practice) is designed specifically for current practice nurses to develop knowledge and skills to practise competently within the changing general practice environment.

The aim is to expand the skills and knowledge base of practice nurses and support the development of flexible, informed and evidence-based practices. The program is particularly designed to enable students to apply and adapt new knowledge and skills directly to their work environment.

Students may enrol into the Graduate Certificate after successfully completing the equivalent of 36 units of study delivered by the Sunshine Coast Division of General Practice. Applicants  will undertake one required postgraduate elective course by USC to be eligible for the award.

Admission requirements

Applicants must be registered nurses. It is recommended that applicants have completed at least one year of full-time (or equivalent) post-registration experience. Applicants should be employed in a general practice. Applicants who are not currently employed in a general practice should discuss their situation with the program coordinator.

International students need to refer to the English language requirements.

NUR551 Practice Nursing 1
NUR552 Practice Nursing 2
NUR751 Advanced Health Assessment

Delivered by University of the Sunshine Coast:
Plus an elective which may be selected from:
NUR721 Research in Health Care
NUR713 Independent Study
or a postgraduate level course from the Faculty of Science, Health and Education, Faculty of Business or Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of the Sunshine Coast in consultation with the program coordinator.

Program requirements

Students are required to successfully complete all courses as specified in the Graduate Certificate in Nursing (General Practice) program structure. Refer to the Academic Rules for further information. Students may not undertake cross-intitutional study for the elective course.
