Marketing and Branding Essentials for Authors and Creative Writers

This course is designed for emerging and aspiring authors and creative writers who want to expand their marketing skills, boost their readership and build a wider following. To be successful in a world full of books, marketing and reputation is essential, regardless of if you go the traditional or self-published route. Limited budgets mean publishing houses now require authors to undertake many marketing activities themselves, and self-published authors need to use marketing to stand out from crowd. This workshop will provide essential marketing tools to make this process easier and demonstrate why marketing is an author’s best friend.

This workshop includes the following topics:

  • Understanding reader and buyer.
  • Learning how to create effective marketing communication content.
  • Developing an appropriate brand for yourself and your work.

Meet the presenter

Dr Jacqueline Burgess is a multi-award-winning educator based at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. She has consulted for various creative businesses including video game developers and her research has been covered by national and international media. Jacqueline has taught marketing courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and direct to industry. She is passionate about debunking misconceptions about marketing.

Meet the presenter

Dr Paul Williams is an international award winning and best-selling author who has published in many genres (fiction, young adult, memoir, non-fiction, crime, creative writing textbooks). He is Associate Professor of Creative Writing and Discipline Lead of Creative Industries at the University of the Sunshine Coast. His most recent book is Writing the Radical Memoir (Bloomsbury) co-authored with Shelley Davidow.
