Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement

What is AHEGS?

The Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS) is a Commonwealth initiative, developed by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) with the support of the university sector and key stakeholders.

The AHEGS:

  • has been introduced to make Australian qualifications more portable and their value more transparent
  • describes the nature, level, context and status of the studies completed
  • comprises information about the:
    • award
    • institution
    • graduate’s academic achievements, and
    • Australian higher education system.

DEEWR developed nationally agreed guidelines to ensure the AHEGS is presented in a consistent format by all higher education institutions to assist all graduates from Australian higher education institutions when seeking employment or further study opportunities in Australia or overseas.

AHEGS at UniSC

Students who complete program requirements on or after 1 July 2011 will be issued with a complimentary AHEGS, in addition to their testamur and official academic record.

To minimise the possibility of forgery and misrepresentation, security elements include a line of microprinting which reads ‘University of the Sunshine Coast’ under magnification, which will not be readable on a copy.

From October 2017, authentic and verified digital AHEGS are available through the My eQuals Portal. Read more about digital graduation documents.

Information for Employers and other Higher Education Institutions

Previously employers, professional associations or other higher education institutions only had access to a graduate’s testamur or academic record and the information often varied across universities. The AHEGS presents information relating to a graduate’s higher education qualification in an easily understandable way and allows anyone who has an interest in this information to compare graduates from any university in Australia.

Benefits of the AHEGS include:

  • enhanced information about the program such as professional experience opportunities and professional accreditation
  • enhanced information about broader aspects of graduates’ academic achievements such as overseas study undertaken and academically-related special achievements, recognition and prizes
  • general information about the awarding institution
  • description of the Australian higher education system

How to request an AHEGS reprint

Only graduates who completed program requirements after 1 July 2011 are eligible to receive an AHEGS. If you are eligible, requests for reprinting can be made through UniSC Online Payments. When requesting a reprint, you can request the AHEGS in either hard copy and/or digital format.

Please allow at least five working days from the time of submission for the processing of your request. At times of peak demand delays may occur.
