Digital photography has revised our thinking about the role of the camera in contemporary culture. In the past, emulsion-based photographs—with their mechanics of production, aesthetic qualities, and vernacular uses—were largely viewed as representations of the real. Today, due to an array of digital tools, photographers can explore previously unimagined possibilities.

How the Light Gets in brings together artworks by local emerging and established artists that embrace these possibilities to stimulate the mind, emotion and imagination of the viewer.

Artists include: Hing Ang, Matt Bushell, Mackinley Brisbane, Shaun Clancy, Kym Franklin, Hannah Rose Hamer, Debra Livingston, Lilly Manion, Andrew Mortimer, Zac Thorpe, Richard Johnston, Dasha Riley, Joanna Santos and Darren Smith.
