Early employment for UniSC graduates continues to climb

Employment rates and starting salaries continue to rise for University of the Sunshine Coast domestic graduating students, with the 2023 Graduate Outcomes Survey National Report recording three years of successive growth.

The report, released today on the Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching website, showed 91 percent of UniSC domestic students completing undergraduate programs were in employment approximately four months post-study, ahead of the national average of 89.1 percent.

This represents a rise since from 81.8 percent in the 2021 report, to 89.6 percent (2022) to 91 percent (2023).

Starting salaries for this group are also growing. The median starting salary for full-time employment was $70,000, up from $65,200 last year.

For UniSC’s postgraduate domestic students, 95.2 percent were employed approximately four months post-study, ahead of the national average 93.9 percent.

The median salary for full-time employment in this group was $81,300, up from $80,000 last year.

UniSC Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Helen Bartlett, said the results continued a three-year upward trajectory in graduate outcomes that reflected a strong job market, demand for UniSC graduates and flexible study options.

“The higher education sector may be facing significant shifts, but employment data like this reminds us that a quality university education remains critical to ensuring Australia has the skilled people it needs to fill roles across multiple sectors,” Professor Bartlett said.

“UniSC graduates are in increasing demand, and they are being headhunted by industry very quickly after completing their studies, some of them before they have even officially graduated.

“We are in constant conversation with industry to ensure students are equipped with the latest information and industry best-practice required to hit the ground running, and work-integrated learning plays an important role in making those connections with the employers who need them.

“A portion of this data also reflects UniSC’s flexible learning options that enable people to upskill without leaving their existing employment,” she said.
