Narangba resident Samantha Forte has already lined up the first business to benefit from the marketing knowledge and skills she intends to learn at USC Moreton Bay next year – her parents’ pizza business.
Opening at Petrie for Semester 1 in 2020, Australia’s newest university campus will offer almost 50 world-class study programs in its first year, including business, education, computer science and mechatronics.
Twenty-year-old Samantha, who has worked at her family’s Pizza Capers franchises at Kallangur and Strathpine since she was 16, said she couldn’t wait to start a Bachelor of Business at the new campus next year.
“I really want to do marketing, which is one of the strands of the Business degree,” she said.
“My parents and I were talking about it and I would love to help with their business marketing, advertising, social media platforms. I enjoy being creative.”
Samantha completed a Certificate 3 in business when she attended Narangba Valley State High School and took a few years to decide exactly what she wanted to study.
“I thought I wanted to do teaching, partly because I’m training people at work now, but when I went to the USC Open Days at Caboolture and Sunshine Coast this year, I decided that business would be right for me,” she said.
“I could see how engaged the USC staff are with students. There was such positivity when I talked to them. I came back and signed up and two weeks later, I got in. It’s exciting, I’m very happy.”
Samantha said the new campus was only 10 minutes on the train between Narangba and Petrie stations, which would enable her to stay living at home.
“I initially thought of moving out but it would be difficult going to uni and paying rent,” she said.
“It’s incredible to have a university so close – and so close to the train station. Everyone on the campus next year will be new and fresh and excited. I can’t wait to attend lectures.”
USC Moreton Bay will open in early 2020 with a state-of-the-art foundation building that includes a full suite of university services. The three-storey multi-purpose building is the first stage of development of the university precinct that is expected to attract 10,000 students enrolled in more than 100 programs by 2030.
