Research

The school has strong multi-disclipinary teams delivering research insights with global impact, and local and regional relevance. We offer research opportunities in key research areas across discplines of Science, Technology and Engineering.

Advanced Characterisation

Characterisation and analysis of chemicals and materials are the building blocks of innovation in manufacturing processes and materials including neutron techniques, environmental science and geochemistry.

Advanced Materials and Manufacturing

A strong collaboration with research partners and industry is essential to innovate and address manufacturing challenges - focusing on issues across the entire product lifecycle from initial design, through manufacture, in-service and finally to end-of-life and recycling.

Coastal Ecosystem Management

We are working across geography, ecology, earth sciences and environmental management to further our understanding and develop tools guided by scientific evidence necessary for the protection, restoration and responsible development of coastal communities and ecosystems.

Genetics, Genomics and Bioinformatics

Our molecular initiatives centre on the genetics of complex traits, conservation and evolutionary genomics, organelle genome, anti-cancer compounds, biotechnology and molecular engineering.

Geospatial Analytics for Conservation

All terrestrial and coastal environments face unprecedented and escalating stressors. This cluster brings together a cross-disciplinary group of researchers seeking to advance the conservation and sustainable use of earth resources, using novel approaches and cutting edge analytics.

Iconic Landscapes and Ecosystems

We leverage a truly unique synergy of complementary research to produce novel insights about the environmental condition of iconic landscapes globally. Our researchers have an extraordinarily broad coverage of landscapes, ranging from tropical shores to high mountains.

Intelligent Sensors, Circuits and Systems

Focusing on developing new innovative technologies for Australian industries in areas such as agriculture, aquaculture, defence, health, transportation, robotics, smart grid, coastal monitoring, forestry, fisheries, farms, and urban and regional services.

Marine and Terrestrial Megafauna

Our pure research on biology, physiology and ecology also provides the building blocks to advance our understanding of marine and terrestrial megafauna.

Ocean Futures

Focusing on climate adaptation in applied settings such as fisheries sustainability, marine spatial planning and biodiversity conservation, aiming to innovate a climate-smart future.

Smart Computing

Bringing together multidisciplinary UniSC expertise in AI, IoT, Big Data, Security and Digital Citizen Science around a research development framework, to address the growing demand for computational research. The aim is to facilitate collaboration between private, academic and public sector organisations within our region, nationally and internationally on smart computing applications.

Research students

Advance knowledge and develop your skills as a STEM researcher working alongside our university's leading minds.

Industry

We partner with industry in a number of ways. We are always looking for new ways to support industry, and we'd welcome the opportunity to connect our students with your workplace.
