Robyn Fox | UniSC | University of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia

Robyn Fox is an Associate Lecturer in the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) / Bachelor of Recreation and Outdoor Environmental Studies, and the Bachelor of Recreation and Outdoor Environmental Studies. The primary focus of Robyn’s teaching has been on foundational knowledge and experience for new students in outdoor and environmental studies. She also has a major component of her fieldwork linked to the teaching of paddling as a method of engagement in outdoor education activities. Robyn is passionate about the environment and doing all things sustainable.

Robyn is looking to undertake a PhD focused on the embedding of ecological literacy and sustainable practices in Outdoor Education.

Previously, Robyn worked for ten years as a freelance outdoor educator, followed by fifteen years of teaching Physical Education and Outdoor Education in International Schools in Angola, Dubai, Sudan, and Thailand.

Robyn was a member of the first all Australian Woman’s decent of the Yukon River, a 75-day paddling expedition in 1997 starting in Whitehorse, Canada and finishing at the Bering Sea in Alaska. She is an avid tall ship sailor with experience sailing on the Alma Doepel a three-masted schooner and the SV Tenacious, a tall ship from the UK which specialises in providing sailing experiences for people with disabilities. She is also an avid sea kayaker who has enjoyed trips to Fraser Island, Hinchinbrook Island, the Whitsundays Islands and the Freycinet Peninsula. One of her upcoming goals is to undertake an expedition paddling from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast.

Robyn enjoys working with students on community projects. In Thailand, she, along with students from the Regent’s School, worked with the Thai army to build homes for people whose homes were destroyed in the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami. In Sudan, she set up sporting programs between the Khartoum International Community School, where she worked, and local schools and orphanages. Whilst working at Luanda International School in Angola she helped coordinate a school-wide initiative to help a local orphanage to set up a library and reading program.

Since moving back to Australia and the Sunshine Coast, Robyn has been involved with the local Alexandra Headland Community Association which meets monthly with a focus on regenerating the foreshore.
