Dr Kathina Ali is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology and a registered Clinical Psychologist. She co-leads to Be Well Lab, a collaborative team of researchers and clinicians from the University of the Sunshine Coast and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI).
The Be Well Lab, in partnership with SAHMRI’s Be Well Co, a commercial spinout company allowing for large-scale reach and impact, develops innovative and scientifically validated tools to help people understand, monitor and build mental health and wellbeing. In 2022, the Be Well Lab was recognised as the Innovator of the Year finalist for the 2022 SA Science Excellence and Innovation Awards.
Prior to joining the University of the Sunshine Coast, Kathina worked at Flinders University, the Australian National University – where she completed a PhD (Clinical Psychology) – the University of Minho (Portugal), and the University of Heidelberg (Germany).
Kathina has extensive clinical experience and a passion to make a meaningful change in the life of people. For over 10 years, she has worked clinically in the area of eating disorders, most recently at a private practice providing treatment services to individuals experiencing eating disorders. She is also a certified Master Trainer for the Be Well Plan, a mental health and wellbeing intervention which helps individuals to build strong levels of mental health through evidence-based activities.

Kathina has a specific research and clinical interest in eating disorders. She is passionate about breaking down barriers towards help-seeking, and to improve knowledge about eating disorders. In her research she has developed and evaluated innovative, digital interventions (e.g., internet, podcast) to facilitate help-seeking and prevent eating disorders.
She is also interested in investigating and improving the mental health and wellbeing of other vulnerable groups and the general public. Kathina has attracted national and international grant funding to support her research and has published widely in high impact journals.
