Dr Julie Hanson obtained her PhD in Nursing from Central Queensland University and received a thesis academic excellence award. Prior to her appointment at UniSC, she pursued an international clinical career spanning 26 years in intensive care, specialist cardiothoracic nursing, cardiology and oncology.
Julie is currently a senior lecturer of nursing in the School of Health. She uses innovative technologies in her teaching to engage students in authentic learning. In 2018, her Advance Award for Quality Teaching addressed science literacy using 3D visualisation technology. Julie has undertaken several institutional and departmental roles including: Nursing and Midwifery Higher Degree by Research Coordinator, Honours Coordinator, Member and Deputy Chair of the UniSC Ethics Committee, UniSC Research Degrees Committee and Faculty Research Degrees Committee.
In 2019, Julie became the Clinical Program Leader for Work Integrated Learning (WIL), responsible for the learning and teaching of nursing students on clinical placement within hospitals and aged care facilities across the Sunshine Coast region (2019-2021). She is a SCHI member, founder member of the SCHI TEL (Technology Enhanced Learning) Group and holds a SCHHS Visiting Nursing Research Fellowship.
Julie undertakes research in two main fields: Patient Safety and Health Services Research. She supervises PhD and Masters students.
