Women's Work
From the Collection
22 March—11 May 2019
Curated by Megan Williams
Borrowing its title from the first exhibition of women’s art held in Australia in 1907, Women’s Work celebrated artwork by Australian women artists held in the University of the Sunshine Coast Art Collection.
Women have been artists for centuries, yet it wasn’t until the 1960s and 1970s alongside the wider feminist movement that they began to gain professional recognition. However, this process has been slow and gender inequality is still a persistent issue in visual arts.
The exhibition brought together a diverse range of practices and acknowledged the dynamic and vital contribution women artists make to art in Australia and to the UniSC Art Collection.
