UniSC moves up the latest global rankings

The global impact of new ideas and knowledge being generated at the University of the Sunshine Coast has helped it to move up 171 places in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University rankings.

UniSC improved its position among more than 1,900 of the world’s universities by 22 percent, moving into the 501-600 band in the rankings that measure performance across the core missions of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

UniSC Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Helen Bartlett, said the University recorded the biggest improvement in Australia for research quality, improving its score in this category from 48 to 70, and moving up more than 331 places in the world rank.

“This pillar measures how UniSC research is contributing to expanding the boundaries of human knowledge around the world,” Professor Bartlett said.

“As a young university, our focus is on research that generates fresh insights and actions that create a better future for all,” she said.

“These results clearly show the influence we are having globally as we champion sustainability, seek better outcomes for health and wellbeing and advance understanding of our environment.”

UniSC improved its world ranking for research environment, which measures a university’s reputation for research excellence among its peers.

UniSC also increased its score for teaching quality, a category that considers teaching reputation, staff-to-student ratio and commitment to nurturing the next generation of academics.

“I congratulate our staff and world-class educators for their commitment and success in creating a quality learning environment for our students that empowers them to become future-focused, creative and critical thinkers." – Professor Helen Bartlett

The global rankings come on the back of UniSC’s recent success in the latest Good Universities Guide that found its students are among the most satisfied and engaged learners in the nation.

Based on the latest graduate and student experience surveys, the 2023-24 Good Universities Guide has rated UniSC as Australia's number one public university for overall postgraduate student experience, and the second best nationwide for undergraduates.

It is also Australia's highest rated public university for postgraduate teaching quality, skills development and student support.

UniSC maintained 13 national five-star ratings from 22 categories – and was awarded a new five-star rating for the proportion of undergraduate students who feel engaged with their learning.
