Adults can sample higher education with a free USC course

A free ‘Uni Skills for You’ course is being offered for adults of all ages and education levels who are interested in taking the first steps to study at university or TAFE.

The University of the Sunshine Coast course will be held at USC’s Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay campuses on 6-7 June, Caboolture campus on 13-14 June, Fraser Coast campus on 14-15 June and Gympie campus on 20-21 June.

Coordinator Liz Davison says USC’s ‘Uni Skills for You’ is a no-obligation, free taste test of the university experience for those aged 18 and over, with a focus on upgrading academic skills and building confidence around starting higher education.

“Some people may not have finished high school, others might not have studied for some time, so this is an opportunity to gain a supported introduction to university or TAFE or help with refreshing study skills,” she said.

“Participants will be introduced to some of the essential tools needed to tackle tertiary-level study, including researching and academic writing.

“Importantly, we will also help them to recognise and use some of the transferable skills they already have gained from work and life experience, such as problem solving and communication.”

At the end of the course, there is an opportunity to explore potential study and career pathways with USC career advisers.

Places are limited and registration is essential. Details here.
