USC Spartans have returned with a swag of medals and a number one club ranking from the Hancock Prospecting Australian Short Course Swimming Championships held in Adelaide last week.

The Spartans finished first overall on points when the three-day carnival ended on Saturday night to claim the prestigious JF Howson Premier Club award.

“This is a great result for the team as we head into the Queensland championships in mid-December,” USC high-performance swim coach Nathan Doyle said.

“Our swimmers made 31 of the 45 finals, with most of them improving their times from the heats to the finals and achieving personal best times.”

The Spartans’ haul included four gold, seven silver and six bronze medals.

Gold medals went to para-swimmer Daniel Fox in both the multi-class 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle (in which he set a new world record), Mikki Sheridan in the 400m freestyle, and Taylor McKeown in the 200m breaststroke. All three also won medals in other events.

Kaylee McKeown claimed silver in the 200m individual medley and bronze in 100m backstroke, Braedan Jason came second in the multi-class 100m freestyle (setting a world record for his class), and Barbara Zavadova snared bronze in the 400m individual medley.
