Score a winning career in sport: USC presentation

Sports lovers who are interested in turning their passion into a career are invited to a presentation by the University of the Sunshine Coast at its Fraser Coast campus.

The “Make Sport Your Career” talk on Thursday 10 November at 3pm will outline the wide variety of roles available and the qualifications and experience needed to help secure a job in the sport and fitness industry.

USC Lecturer in Sports Studies Dave Robinson, who will present the session, said people did not have to be stars on the court or field to have a rewarding career in sport.

“There are growing opportunities for qualified providers of sport and fitness, and for professionals in areas such as sports marketing and event management,” Mr Robinson said.

“Facilities management and sports administration skills are also highly valued commodities at all levels – from community clubs to elite sports.”

Mr Robinson said enrolments were open for USC’s Bachelor of Sports Studies for those interested in pursuing a range of creative and innovative careers in sport and fitness.

“The program provides practical core sport skills and sport science knowledge in areas such as coaching science, functional anatomy, motor control and biomechanics and exercise testing and measurement,” he said.

“The addition of complementary studies and majors including tourism, leisure and event management and marketing can open doors to many career opportunities.”

The presentation will be held as part of Meet USC Fraser Coast, a free event that encourages prospective students and community members to explore the Fraser Coast campus and find out about the study options available in 2017.

People can drop in anytime between 1-4pm at the campus in Old Maryborough Road, Hervey Bay.

Visitors can talk to advisors about their preferred degree, receive career advice, find about fees and scholarships and take a campus tour.

The Bachelor of Sports Studies is one of more than 15 study programs offered at USC Fraser Coast next year.

New programs include a Bachelor of Animal Ecology and a Bachelor of Tourism, Leisure and Event Management, as well as first-year courses in Science, Social Work, Counselling, Psychology and Social Science.
