Dreamy exhibition of ink drawings to open at USC

A stunning exhibition of large-scale drawings by Buderim artist David Green will open at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery on Thursday 7 July at 6.30pm.

The exhibition, called Collecting Tomorrow’s Dreams, showcases a traditional method of drawing using ink and steel nib dipping pens combined with contemporary design elements and imagery to tell stories.

USC Gallery manager Lou Jaeger said Mr Green’s intricate and intensely methodical process was fascinating and his work would have wide appeal.

“The exhibition will feature mostly highly detailed and large-scale work from his Buderim studio,” Ms Jaeger said.

“The artist has a background in textile design and this influence results in beautifully refined and exciting work which the viewer can spend time with.

“Through his work, David questions the world we inhabit. Drawing is central to his art practice, so this exhibition is a celebration of his exceptional talent.”

The artist’s work features in a number of public collections, including those at the Powerhouse Museum Gallery in Sydney, Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in Launceston, and the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery.

Mr Green is the author of four books, a former Chair of the Crafts Board of the Australia Council, is actively engaged in workshops and seminars, and pursues his practice as a full-time exhibiting artist.

Those interested in attending the opening night of Collecting Tomorrow’s Dreams on Thursday 7 July are asked to email Ms Jaeger at ljaeger@usc.edu.au or phone (07) 5456 5746.

The exhibition will continue at the USC Gallery until Saturday 20 August.

The gallery is located at the University campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs. It is open free to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday and closed Sundays and public holidays.
