Orientation fun for new students at USC Gympie

The University of the Sunshine Coast will welcome more than 70 new students to its Gympie campus with a special Orientation Day tomorrow (Wednesday 20 July).

Live music, workshops, campus tours, stalls and even a free lunch are part of the event to provide the students with the skills and knowledge they need to prepare for the start of Semester 2 next week.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Students) Professor Karen Nelson said Orientation played an important role in familiarising students with the USC campus and community.

“Orientation allows students to learn skills to help them successfully transition to university study, meet other students and academic staff, and find out about the community, social and sporting opportunities that USC offers,” Professor Nelson said.

Free welcome packs will be given to students as they attend specific information sessions and meet academic staff from their study programs, and attend workshops on IT and research fundamentals.

Student mentors will provide insights into campus life, and the students will be introduced to the free wellbeing services offered by USC including counselling, study support and practical help with accommodation, financial and budgeting needs.

The commencing students have enrolled in degrees including Nursing Science, Business and Accounting, Social Sciences and USC’s free university bridging program, Tertiary Preparation Pathway.
