All three University of the Sunshine Coast swimmers competing for Australia at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro have now won medals.

In an exciting final day in the pool yesterday (Saturday night Rio time), Taylor McKeown snared silver in the 4x100m women’s medley relay, while Jake Packard was a member of the men’s 4x100m medley team that claimed bronze.

Both USC Spartans swam the breaststroke legs of their respective relays.

They have joined fellow USC Spartans swimmer Leah Neale – who was part of the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay team that won silver on Thursday – as Olympic medallists.

The trio are part of a high-performance squad that trains at the USC pool and is coached by Chris Mooney, who has been part of the Australian swimming coaching team in Rio.

The USC Spartans squad also has seven swimmers gearing up to compete in the Paralympic Games starting 7 September.

These athletes, coached by 1964 Olympic silver medallist Jan Cameron, will leave the Sunshine Coast next week to prepare for their campaign in Rio.
