A University of the Sunshine Coast sports psychologist will share techniques on how athletes can psych themselves up for major sporting events.
Senior Lecturer in Psychology Dr Geoff Lovell will provide advice at a special public lecture at USC on Friday 18 September on how sportspeople can make the most of the pressure they feel on game day.
The sports psychology presentation, aimed at a general audience aged 13 and older, is part of the Friday Night Sports Talk series hosted by USC.
Dr Lovell is a registered psychologist and coach who has travelled with national teams to numerous international sporting championships, working with World Cup, Paralympic and Olympic medal winners. As a teacher, he has been recognised nationally.
Dr Lovell’s talk will focus on understanding the challenges of big games and using mental strategies to assist athletes in performing to their full potential.
He will also share some in-game techniques to help sportspeople rebound from mistakes.
The 30-minute talk will begin at 6.45pm at the USC Sports Stadium recreation room.
The talks are a joint initiative of USC Sport Science, Centre for Support and Advancement of Learning and Teaching (C-SALT), the USC Junior Basketball Club (USCBC) and USC Sport.
They were initiated through an Office of Engagement Research Support Grant, sponsored by local sport retailers and hosted by USCBC.
