The President of Queensland’s Court of Appeal, The Honourable Justice Margaret McMurdo AC, will deliver the University of the Sunshine Coast’s inaugural Law Oration tomorrow (Wednesday 23 September).

Justice McMurdo will speak about ‘A Human Rights Act for Queensland?’ at the event, from 6-7pm, which is open to Law students, members of the legal profession and the broader USC community.

More than 150 people are expected to attend.

The oration will follow the official opening by Justice McMurdo of USC’s Moot Court, a facility that was constructed recently to give Law students the opportunity to practise working in a courtroom environment. This event will begin at 5.15pm.

The best time for media to photograph/film Justice McMurdo at USC will be at 5pm, prior to the Moot Court opening.

NOTE: Justice McMurdo will not be available for interviews.

USC’s Foundation Professors of Law and Co-Heads of the Law School, Neil and Anne Rees, said they were looking forward to welcoming one of the State’s most senior judges to the University.

“This is a great milestone for the USC Law School,” Professor Anne Rees said. “It is quite a feature of law school life to have a leader in the law give a lecture about a topical matter.

“We’re delighted that Justice McMurdo accepted our invitation and we’re looking forward to a stimulating address about a topic of great interest that deserves community debate.”
