German-born Sunshine Coast artist Katrin Terton will present her exhibition, Random Transitions: fibre. rust. skin. at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery, opening Thursday 26 November at 6.30pm.

The exhibition features Katrin’s work that has been created using elements from the natural world such as fibre, rust and skin.

Included in the exhibition is a series of digital photographs that explores the process Katrin follows in using the tactile medium.

“I’m drawn to nature’s discards, her forgotten remnants which many of us absentmindedly overlook,” Katrin said.

“These materials, often fragile, always precarious, continue to shift and change with the elements. You can't ‘force’ them into a predetermined stable form. Nor would I want to.

“Even as I gather them and integrate them into something new and therefore connect them with my own personal journey, they have already begun another transition.”

Curator Lou Jaeger said Katrin’s work was refreshingly fragile and delicate, yet revealed the strength and beauty of our local natural environment.

“The story that nature has to share is sensitively and thoughtfully expressed through Katrin’s artistic vision,” she said.

The exhibition will continue at the USC Gallery until Friday 18 December.

The gallery is located at the University campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs.

It is open free to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday and closed Sundays and public holidays.
