Current and continuing students at the Gympie campus of the University of the Sunshine Coast will enjoy a day of Hawaiian/Mexican-style fun and festivities next Thursday 19 February.
Up to 200 students are expected at USC Gympie’s Cartwright Road facilities between 10am and 3pm for Welcome Day, including lunch and live entertainment with singer-songwriter Carl Wockner from 12pm to 1.30pm.
USC Gympie Manager Graham Young said the day would include information sessions about programs in Nursing Science, Primary Education, Business and Accounting, Social Sciences and Tertiary Preparation Pathway.
He said new students could familiarise themselves with the campus and learn the essentials of IT and library services to prepare for a successful first year.
“There will be campus tours presented by current Gympie student mentors, as well as a student experience forum,” Mr Young said. “Stall holders will include the Co-op Bookshop, Mail and Print Services and the Buranga Centre.”
USC Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Birgit Lohmann will officially welcome the new students.
USC Gympie has a 75-seat lecture theatre, tutorial rooms, study areas and interactive learning technology connecting with USC’s Sippy Downs campus.
More than 250 students are expected to be on campus at Gympie when Semester 1 starts on Monday 2 March.
