The best in up-and-coming Engineering talent will be celebrated at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s 2015 Engineering Awards presentation ceremony tomorrow evening (Wednesday 26 August).

The ceremony will see scholarships and bursaries totalling tens of thousands of dollars awarded, with the prizes funded by a range of Sunshine Coast businesses as well as individuals from the field of engineering.

Anticipation is set to be high, with the winners of two prestigious scholarships valued at $10,000 and $9,000 respectively to be announced on the night.

Media are invited to attend the presentation ceremony, which will begin at 5.15pm at USC’s Innovation Centre auditorium.

The Unitywater Scholarship in Civil Engineering ($10,000) will be awarded to a Civil Engineering student majoring in Environment and Water and includes paid vacation work and the opportunity to enter the Unitywater Graduate Program upon completion of the USC degree.

The WEIR Minerals Australia Scholarship in Mechanical Engineering ($9,000) will be awarded to a second-year Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering student.

Senior Lecturer in Engineering Dr Richard White said the organisations and individuals funding the awards were providing a huge boost to the recipients.

“These awards acknowledge high level performance by students, as a combination of both their academic record and extra-curricular activities they have undertaken to contribute to the community,” Dr White said.

“The evening also allows us to thank the groups and people who provide these awards and support the achievements of our students.”

A total of 11 bursaries and scholarships will be presented at the ceremony.
