USC will recognise the inspirational leadership of a former school principal by awarding him an Honorary Senior Fellowship at its graduation ceremony on Friday 17 April.

Anthony Vincent will be honoured for his exceptional achievements in developing and leading academic excellence at Matthew Flinders Anglican College at Buderim, where he was principal for 15 years.

By the time Mr Vincent retired in 2013, the college was consistently ranked as one of Queensland’s top schools for academic achievement for primary and secondary school students.

“I am humbled to be honoured by USC for my contribution to education on the Sunshine Coast and to realise that my legacy has been remembered,” Mr Vincent said.

“I think my greatest achievement at the school was the development of a positive culture. The most important thing is that students enjoy what they are doing and know that it is valuable and they feel cared for by their teachers.

“We also had high expectations of our students which made them strive to be the best that they could be.”

Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Birgit Lohmann said Mr Vincent’s leadership and dedication to his school and long association with USC made him a worthy recipient of the honour.

“Not only was Anthony Vincent a highly respected and popular leader at his school, he has made a valuable contribution to USC’s training of the teachers of the future,” Professor Lohmann said.

“He also contributed to the development of quality teaching in West Papua and the establishment of a successful Indonesian language program at USC for high school teachers and students.”
