Ronald Young

Honorary Senior Fellow (April 1999)

Ronald Young was named an Honorary Senior Fellow in April 1999 in recognition of his major contribution to the University's physical development.

Ron Young started his career as a teacher of science, then studied for an Master of Science in astrophysics before becoming a foundation lecturer in QIT in 1965. In 1967, he came a Head of Department in the new Capricornia Institure of Advanced Education in Rockhampton, where, as the institution grew, he became Dean, Deputy Director, and then Pro Vice-Chancellor when the institution became Central Queensland University. Having retired in 1992, Ron became involved in the physical planning of this university in 1994. It was due largely to the detailed work in which he was engaged that USC opened for students in February 1996, in what was an unprecedentedly short time-line. Yet at no stage was quality of planning compromised by that race against time. This University owes him a great debt of gratitude for the work he accomplished between 1994-96 in particular. He remains involved in the work of university committees.
