Rick Mitchell

Rick Mitchell is a Senior Research Assistant, AFORA, with the Forest Industries Research Centre at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Rick has over 30 years’ experience in forest management following his graduation from the WA Forest Dept. cadetship, where he was posted to several towns in the south west of WA. Rick gained an understanding of native forest management, supervision and silvicultural practices in jarrah and karri forests in the central and southern regions of WA. In 1999 Rick moved into the newly formed business unit South Coast Sharefarms which was establishing the bluegum plantation industry.

Rick also worked for Timbercorp, (now ABP) and had several roles including WA Forestry Manager managing the establishment and maintenance of the WA estate, New Project Development Manager coordinating project development, PDS production and carbon accounting and, Haulage and Client services Manager, which included management of haulage contractors, roading, chip quality, port liaison and ship scheduling.

Rick’s current role, Senior Research Technician with AFORA based in Albany, conducting harvesting supply chain research, with strengths in his close relationships and liaison with industry.

Rick is a member of the Australian Institute of Foresters and is currently studying a Masters of Forestry through ANU.
