Dr Shannon Brincat | UniSC | University of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia

Dr Shannon Brincat is a Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Shannon specialises in Critical International Relations Theory and his work focuses on processes of global transformation taking place over and above the state. In particular, he has examined how people have sought to expand the circle of inclusion in cosmopolitan political community through processes of mutual recognition and dialogue across borders in world politics. Other research areas include global responses to climate change and ecological crises, the problems of assassination and tyrannicide, and political imagination. His current major project focuses on dialectics – a unique form of thinking about transformation, interconnection and dialogue – and how different cultures and societies have utilised such knowledge across history. His book forthcoming, The Spiral World, shows how dialectical thinking can help us mediate the accelerating ecological and political challenges facing humanity today.

Since completing his PhD in 2011, Shannon has been a Research Fellow at the University of Helsinki, a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Queensland, and a Research Fellow at Griffith University. He has published widely, with two co- edited co-authored books and eight edited/journal symposia alongside over thirty articles and book chapters. Shannon's articles have appeared in journals such as the European Journal of International Relations, Review of International Studies, and Constellations. He is co-founder and co-editor of the journal Global Discourse and sits on the editorial board of Globalizations.
