Melissa Innes

Doctor Melissa Innes is an Associate Lecturer in Management and Human Resource Management in the School of Business and Creative Industries (SBCI). She has been associated with UniSC since 2002 when she joined the university as project officer for the research unit previously known as Sunshine Coast Research Institute for Business Enterprise (SCRIBE).

Melissa’s PhD, entitled Exploring the lived experience of Individual Foresight in organisations, was awarded the Dean’s Graduate Research Award for outstanding thesis in September 2023. She is continuing research with her Individual Foresight (IF) Framework to investigate the role of intuition in foresight for employees in organisations; and intends for the outcomes to be applied in organisational settings to encourage knowledge creation and knowledge management leading to competitiveness for firms.

Passionate about supporting sustainable food network practices for the Sunshine Coast, Melissa engages with local food network actors to seek ways to preserve valuable knowledge in an often volunteer environment. She is interested in understanding the role of knowledge creation and sharing in organisations – and how these practices contribute to effective strategies aimed at enhancing efficiency and sustainability.

Melissa is a recipient of the international Erasmus scholarship facilitating a teaching exchange in Germany in 2023 and is proud to be Course Coordinator for SBCI’s largest first year undergraduate course – Discovering Management. She strongly believes that the purpose of teaching is to inspire a passion in learners to desire greater knowledge; leading to an enriched quality of life nourished by an innate enthusiasm to source, master and share new knowledge with others.
