Professor Marianne Wallis was named an Emeritus Professor in September 2020 in recognition of her sustained and distinguished service to USC as Professor of Nursing and her role improving the University’s research rankings in the field of Nursing through her strong international reputation for research excellence in health service and patient safety research.

Professor Marianne Wallis is a nursing academic with a strong international reputation for research excellence in health service and patient safety research. Her work has had a direct impact on the delivery of health services to frail older adults attending hospital Emergency Departments. With her clinical collaborators and academic colleagues from a range of universities she has helped change health care practice, improve patient outcomes, and has mentored a generation of nurses, doctors and allied health staff to be involved in research that changes the face of healthcare. Under her stewardship nursing research at USC was awarded the highest Excellence in Research Australia classification in both 2015 and 2018. All of this contributed to Nursing being nominated as a USC Flagship discipline in 2016. Marianne's outstanding leadership makes her a worthy recipient of the title of Emeritus Professor of the University. Professor Marianne Wallis gave sustained and distinguished service to USC from 2013 to 2019 as Professor of Nursing for almost seven years. Professor Wallis performed several roles in her time at USC including Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation), Associate Dean of Health, Acting Head of School – Nursing Midwifery & Paramedicine, Deputy Head of School - Nursing Midwifery & Paramedicine {SoNMaP) and SoNMaP Academic Lead for Research.
