Boorangoora (Lake McKenzie)

 

OVERVIEW

With its fine white sand and crystal clear waters, visiting Boorangoora is an iconic K'gari experience.

Known as 'Boorangoora' by the Butchulla People, the lake covers an area of 130 hectares and is perched about 100m above sea level.

Like other Island lakes, the sand acts as a filtration system, creating some of the worlds freshest water. It averages around 6.6m in depth.

Facilities

The area has camping, toilet and picnic facilities.

Sunscreen harms these pristine waters.Swimming or diving is not recommended as the lakes can have hidden obstacles such as submerged logs and branches. There are no lifeguards on the Island.
